PRESS RELEASE N 7

Mexico City January 7, 2007

On Saturday, January 6, several commission members, among them Dr. Doris Palvio and Ms. Marta Ramos visited the Matamoros Prison in order to gather the testimony of Erk Sosa Villavicencio who is detained there. During a private interview that lasted two hours we received details of his detention and took note of his denunciation. We are still awaiting to be able to confirm the Commission's visit to CEFERESO No 1, El Altiplano, in order to interview several of those being held there, including Flavio Sosa Villavicencio, Horacio Sosa Villaviencio, and Catarino Torres Pereda. We hope to be able to carry out this interview from Monday on.

Today, we received an interview petition for an interview on behalf of Dr. Berta E Munoz in order to gather her testimony in conditions that will guarantee her safety. Dr. Munoz asked us to make her interview public, in order that the death threats received by her and her family be known. These have made it necessary for her to remain in an unknown location.

In order to honor her wishes and according to the criteria observed by the Commission-to maintain confidentiality and anonymity unless otherwise expressed by an individual- we are including the transcription of the interview. Please find a link to the Commission's website below, where an abridged version of the audio and video of the interviews can be found, as well as photographs.
